Romaine lettuce (called Cos lettuce in Great Britain) is a staple item that accounts for over $1 billion in produce sales in the U.S.
Romaine is typically used in Caesar salads, although romaine hearts have become more universally used for that popular salad, because of hearts’ ease of preparation and better eating qualities.
There are two type of romaine – self-closing and open varieties. The self-closing variety is used to grow romaine hearts, while the open variety is most often grown for use as conventional romaine.
Our romaine is promptly cooled in our vacuum cooling tubes at our cooling facility. This process takes out the field heat, ensuring quality and good shelf life for the product.
